The KC Water Services Dept. is implementing a project in southeastern KC to measure and evaluate the performance of green solutions as compared to traditional storm water management improvements. The City has determined that these solutions will eliminate the need for the construction of large concrete storage tanks and pumping facilities that were previously recommended.
The pilot project area extends from 73rd to 77th Ter., Holmes to Paseo (100 acres) plus the adjacent 86 acre control area. Lessons learned from this will be used for future planning throughout the 744 acres of the Middle Blue River Basin. Some of the projects planned include more than 90 rain gardens, pervious sidewalks and parking lots, 163 bio-retention cells, lots of trees, and more. Call 816-513-0124 or visit www.kcmo.org/wetweather for more information.
