Serving as the Americorps VISTA for Tulips on Troost and Southtown over the past year has led to a deepened understanding about the city I call home. I had my eyes opened to parts of the Kansas City that I'd never seen; opportunities that I didn't know existed for business owners, consumers and residents; and I met an immense number of dedicated community leaders who give every ounce of their time and energy to better our city. I learned more about how our city works, from City Hall to a little office at 68th & Troost that holds a lot of sway. I met the fantastic people of Southtown, Waldo, and Brookside who welcomed me and taught me about their experiences on Troost and beyond.
I am very thankful for the opportunity I had over the past year, serving the Troost Avenue community. I have been inspired by the dedication of KC's citizens to making it a better place for all, and I hope to carry that vision on to wherever I go. Thank you for the chance to serve alongside you over the past year!
