Habitat for Humanity Kansas City's Spring Build Season is an opportunity for 2011 Habitat homeowners, volunteers, sponsors and supporters to come together for the first build project in the Southtown community. Habitat is excited to honor founders John and Mary Pritchard at the [img_assist|nid=679|title=Habitat Build|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=351|height=263]newly named site, "Pritchard Place," located off of 66th Ter. between Troost and Paseo. This project is being done in partnership with the City of Kansas City, Missouri which provided PIAC funding for the street construction and HUD HOME Funding towards the construction of five new homes. The new street, Singleton Way (honoring longtime Habitat supporters Kite and Marty Singleton), street's infrastructure features bio-swales to reduce storm water run-off on the project site. Two other homes adjacent to Pritchard Place are HUD Funded Neighborhood Stabilization Program projects.
Habitat for Humanity Kansas City changes lives for low income families by providing homeownership opportunities most would not be able to obtain through traditional means. The mission is to eliminate poverty housing by building safe, decent, affordable homes for and with families in need. Supporting Habitat for Humanity Kansas City will benefit not only Habitat homeowners, but also the community at large. By providing more shelter and education, Habitat for Humanity Kansas City will contribute to the revitalization of blighted urban neighborhoods and will provide a stable environment where children and families can thrive.
