The Southtown Environment and Public Works Committee selected Mad Jack’s On Troost, a fresh fish market and restaurant, as the recipient of the June Sparkle Award.
When it opened a year ago at 6200 Troost, Mad Jack’s On Troost brought with it a reputation and a following from its original restaurant on State Ave. in Kansas City, KS. Owner Walter Dobbs and his staff have already invested in the site. The plantings of knock-out roses, the addition of flower pots and improvements to fence have made a real contribution to the look of the area.
But the unique blend of restaurant and fresh fish market has made Mad Jack’s a popular place for the neighborhood. Catfish, roughy, frog legs, crab legs, and oysters are just some of the items available fresh daily, and the delicacies can be cooked and served on the spot or sold for home preparation. And the atmosphere is laid back and friendly. “We play old school R&B,” says Dobbs, “and it seems to make everyone happy.” Check it out, and see why Mad Jack’s “sparkles!”
