[img_assist|nid=745|title=Rockhurst Garage|desc=|link=node|align=right|width=502|height=340]The first tenant for the retail space that will be located on Troost in the ground floor of the Rockhurst University parking garage, is a health clinic to be operated by Research Medical Center. When the idea for a mixed use garage emerged, Rockhurst University saw an opportunity to provide services that would appeal to both the campus community and the greater community at large, and for the university to be a leader in the continuing revitalization of Troost Avenue.
According to Matt Heinrich, Associate VP for Administration, “During discussions with students and community members, we heard that a health care facility would be a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The clinic will be operated as a walk-in facility for students, faculty, staff and the public. It will occupy approximately 3,700 square feet, have multiple exam rooms and x-ray equipment, and will be staffed by a physician, a nurse practitioner and support staff. Research College of Nursing, which partners with Rockhurst to provide nursing education, will provide the nurse practitioner. Having an on-campus health care option should make health appointments and urgent care much more convenient for our campus community.” Work on the facility will begin after the garage is complete in January 2012 and the opening is anticipated for summer 2012.
Information about hours of operation, insurance requirements and services will be forthcoming. The University continues to seek tenants for the remaining spaces that would be a good fit for the campus and community.
