The Prosperity Center for Financial Opportunity is the newest occupant of Rockhill University’s commercial space in its new Parking Garage at 5151 Troost Ave. The mission of the Center is to improve the financial bottom line for low- to moderate income individuals and families, helping to change their financial behavior in a way that encourages a long-term commitment to building a bright financial future. To achieve this, the Center provides a broad range of financial services, including employment counseling and placement, financial education and coaching, and public benefits access.
The Center is a partnership between Catholic Charities Kansas City-St. Joseph, the Kansas City Full Employment Council, United Way of Greater Kansas City, Greater Kansas City Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) , and Rockhurst University. The Center is part of a nationwide network of 70 centers in 30 cities that use the LISC financial assistance program model. Services are free, and the Center is targeting the need in the nearby neighborhoods. Rev. Thomas B. Curran, President of Rockhurst, said, “We are pleased to offer this vital service to our neighbors and to continue our contributions to strengthening the historic Troost Avenue Corridor.” The new Prosperity Center represents a win-win for Southtown – a new storefront occupied, and a valuable service provided to Southtowners designed to make them and the community a better place to live and work. Our special thanks to Rockhurst University for supporting this terrific new endeavor.
