In January 2014, in the midst of the snow and freezing temperatures, the Troost Avenue Troopers began their efforts to beautify the Troost Ave Corridor from 46th St. south to 75th St. and along 63rd St. from Pener Plaza west to Rockhill Rd. Now that Mother Nature is cooperating, the three-person crew of Moonlight Sweeping, Inc., known as the Troost Ave. Troopers, are hard at work addressing trash, weeds and graffiti.
Moonlight owner Ryan Bertholdi prides himself on personal service and handling whatever needs attention on any given day. The crew is busy cleaning up the Avenue area three days a week. They service area bus stops and city right-of-way areas as well as perimeters of parking lots and sidewalks.
The maintenance service is a supplemental service provided by the Troost Ave. Community Improvement District (CID) that was put in place at the beginning of the year. Through the CID, property owners are
assessed an extra $150 on their property tax and retailers collect an extra ½ cent sales tax. All funds are directed back into the CID area to help fund beautification efforts as well as security and marketing. A big thank you and congratulations to the Troost Avenue Troopers for being awarded the June Southtown Sparkle Award!
