Southtown Council has five active committees that are looking for some more participants. The majority of the meetings are held at the Southtown Planning Center. If you are interested in participating, please contact the Southtown Council office, 816-523-5553. Here is a brief description of each:
Community Improvement/Beautification: Monthly 8am meetings, selects the Southtown Sparkle Award recipients, selects the annual Southtown Beautification Award winners, works with the city and property owners on maintenance issues, helps with Tulips on Troost Project, and currently working on a Community Improvement District for Troost Ave.
Planning and Development: Monthly 8am meetings usually on the 4th Thursday; works to implement the Troost Avenue Corridor Plan and the 63rd St. Corridor Plan; reviews plans presented by the City, area developers, and institutions; acts as a liaison at City Hall Hearings.
Programs/Events: Bi-monthly Monday 3pm meetings at Governor Stumpy’s; plan and carryout annual events including the After Hours Business Exchange, American Citizen Luncheon, Southtown Beautification Dinner, and monthly networking events.
Membership and Fund Development: Monthly meetings that vary in times; develops and implement the annual membership campaign; holds the annual Membership Blitz; and solicits donations/grants for Southtown projects.
Public Affairs: Monthly 8am meeting with representatives from Southtown, Waldo, and Brookside to develop relationships with elected official and works to increase the community’s position at City Hall.
