SRO Video, 402 E. Gregory, is still the best place in town to find movies you can't find anywhere else. From new releases to indie titles to semi-obscure British TV series, SRO lives up to its tongue-in-cheek motto: "We are not boring." In business since 1985, SRO is legendary for its knowledgeable eight-person staff, whose passion for film attracts many return customers. "We enjoy getting to know people and talking about life and movies," said Meg Norris, manager and daughter of owner Sue Ann Snow.
SRO expects to remain in business at least for the coming year. After that, time will tell whether or not they renew their expiring lease. "We're not sure what is going to happen," said Norris. She said the building owner is hedging bets by beginning the process of obtaining neighborhood and city approvals for a possible grocery/liquor store to take over the space. But for now, SRO is still giving discounts for correct answers to trivia questions, still offering doggie treats to customers' canines and still greeting kids with baskets of plastic dinosaurs.

In the 1920's, there was a lake called Waldo Lake, between what is now Walnut and Grand Blvd., 71st to 72nd St. What was the original lake club house is now a residence on the west side of Walnut, south of 71st St. A long-time resident remembers playing on the lake shore with his brother when they were small children.
