The Southtown Environment and Public Works committee selected St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 815 E. Meyer Blvd., for the August Sparkle Award.
In operation for 81 years, St. Peter’s is an anchor for our community. In addition to Catholic liturgy celebrations, St. Peter’s provides an elementary school for 600+ children, Early Child Learning Center, Social Services to the neighborhood for food and emergency assistance, and community gatherings for socials and prayer.
According to St. Peter’s Pastor, Joseph Sharbel, “St. Peter’s continues to do outreach to the poor as well as having maintained a sister parish relationship with San Francisco de Asis Parish in El Salvador. The acquisition of the former Meyer Blvd. United Methodist Church has further added to our ability to serve our community. Having placed our parish office, social services, early childhood center and a number of meeting rooms has enabled St. Peter’s to serve our community with a focused effort.”
By mid-August, the interior renovation of the main church building will be completed, providing once again a beautiful space to worship. Improvements already completed include exterior renovation and repair of the main church building; interior renovation of the parish rectory for priests’ residence; expansion of the Food Pantry and social service area; expansion of the Early Childhood Center; and expansion of the school central offices.
St. Peter’s Catholic Church has been a member and supporter of the Southtown Council for 24 years!
Congratulations to St. Peter’s for continuing to do their part in making Southtown sparkle!
