KC Habitat ReStore was founded in 2000. Donations of new and used building materials are accepted from individuals, contractors and retailers. They operate on a "Triple Bottom Line" philosophy- People, Planet and Profit. People can purchase building supplies at ReStore. ReStore works to be a good steward of the environment by diverting thousands of tons of useable building materials to the ReStore. And ReStore profits are used for the Habitat for Humanity KC program.
ReStore also is involved with other environmental projects such as: creatingrain gardens; utilizing used motor oil to heat their warehouse; recycling materials, and adding fuel additives in their truck fleet to increase fuel mileage and reduce emissions. ReStore is a collaborative effort that includes local government, private sector, nonprofits, faith-based communities, environmental organizations, and other groups.
