The I.Donnelly Company, 6601 Troost Ave., is a Catholic bookstore that has been in business since 1905 and family-owned and operated since 1940. They specialize in Catholic books and gifts, as well as clerical and church supplies for all Christian faiths. The showroom is open to the public but most of the business comes from catalog sales in 20 states. They currently employ 13 people, both full-time employees and part-time students. The store is open from 8:30am to 5pm Monday through Friday and 9am-3pm on Saturdays.
Owners Michael and Susan Becker decided to replace the building windows this summer primarily because of leaks but also to help with the heating and cooling of the building. The old dark colored panes of glass installed in 1985 (when they relocated to this Troost location) were replaced with 8" x 8" Decora glass blocks in a crystal and blue pattern. Now, the business is sparkling inside and out!
