The Southtown Beautification Committee selected Rockhurst University as the February Sparkle Award recipient. As part of the University's master plan, six reflection sites are being installed throughout the campus to provide intriguing spaces to experience the core values of Rockhurst. A statue of St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Jesuit Order, was installed along with a garden and fountain near Greenlease Library. This Centennial Year gift from the Jesuit Community is in recognition of the many Jesuits who have lived and worked at Rockhurst in the last 100 years. It symbolizes the core value of reflection and discernment.
This past summer, the "Sacred Labyrinth" was completed and is the first part of the Heritage walk that will stretch from Troost Ave. to The Paseo. As published in the Rockhurst Centennial magazine, "The walk is a reflection site that expresses the Rockhurst core value of finding God in All things. Inside the labyrinth - funded by a gift from the Kansas City alumni chapter - speaking from the center produces a natural echo, which reminds us we communicate differently when we are centered rather than on the edge."
Congratulations to Rockhurst for their 100 years of service to the community and for continuing to make Southtown sparkle!
