Pemberton Park is Helping Southtown Sparkle!

Pemberton Park is the first apartment community in KC exclusively for grandfamilies who are grandparents raising their grandchildren. This $7.9 million apartment community opened in the spring of 2011, at 5010 Cleveland, near Swope Parkway and Blue Parkway. [img_assist|nid=754|title=|desc=|link=node|align=right|width=525|height=349]The property was developed by Cougar Capital and funded by the MO Housing Development Commission. On the campus, you will find 36 spacious apartments including two, three, and four bedroom units.
The floor plans are all on one level. The units include all appliances, including a full-size washer/dryer. On site, there is a playground, grandparents retreat room, computer learning center, craft room, social work office and a community room.

The units have controlled access and are handicap accessible. According to the 2000 Census for Jackson County, approximately 9,500 families were headed by grandparents. Approximately 45% of those families live below the poverty level. The 2010 US Census indicates that the number of Grandfamilies is growing nationally. They face unique challenges and have special needs. The Pemberton Park addresses these needs with a host of special services and facilities.
The complex is located by the Swope Parkway Community Health Center, the Thomas Roque Child & Family Development Center, and is within walking distance of the Shops on Blue Parkway. It is also on the metro bus line and close to the Brush Creek Community Center.
