At this year’s Waldo Fall Festival, Jackson County Legislator Scott Burnett and outgoing Waldo Mayor Jerry Singer presented the dedication of the first honorary marker on Waldo’s new “Walk
of Fame” located at the Waldo monument, 75th St. and Wornall Rd. Dr John J. Turley was remembered as a “Proud Waldonian, Selfless Volunteer, a Steadfast Legacy and a Gentle Soul.”
His family was present to accept a photograph of the memorial.
The words were engraved on a unique piece of Jerusalem dolomite-limestone that traveled over 7500 miles from the 3rd largest crater in the world. Ben Nachum of Jerusalem stone carefully crafted and skillfully etched the stone by hand. His father, Sam Nachum, founder of Jerusalem Stone, 319 W 79th Terrace, is from a small mountain village named Malcha in Jerusalem, Israel.
“We only work with, fabricate, and supply Jerusalem Stone and have done so since January 1995,” Sam points out. The natural stone material comes from areas from the Jordan River on the east to the Mediterranean Sea on the west, and from the southern Port of Eilat on the Red sea to The Galilee and Haifa on the north.
Waldo is proud to have a piece of Jerusalem stone steadfastly placed at the monument where respected Waldonians will be honored.
