WABA’s Founders Honored at Festival

Six of the founders of the Waldo Area Business Association were graciously honored for their many years of dedication and service to the Waldo area. Mayor Sly James and Councilwoman Jan Marcason expressed the City’s sincere appreciation to Betty Tillotson, Dave Smith,Dr. John Turley, Norm Besheer, Sam Gromowsky and Tom Johnston through a City Proclamation declaring that September 24, 2011 was Waldo Founders Day.

New Bicycle Shop on Troost Avenue

Executive Director Elizabeth Bejan reports, “We have repurposed the former auto repair building into a bike repair shop located between Rockhurst and UMKC.” They offer low and no cost bicycles and bike safety/maintenance classes. “Reuse, reduce, recycle, Revolve!” is the mantra for using bikes as solutions for healthy lifestyles and affordable, earth-friendly transportation. Spooky Fun at the Wornall House Museum and Alexander Majors House

Forget the zombies, gore and ghouls of the “scare” houses downtown and go on a tour of real haunted houses. Hear true stories of contact with the other side. Need even more excitement? Join real paranormal investigators in two homes built in the 1850’s and see if you can see a Civil War ghost yourself. Both the John Wornall House Museum and Alexander Majors House Museum can give you these thrills and chills.

Marlborough - Green Stations Demonstration Area

The Middle Blue River Basin Green Solutions Pilot Project is a100-acrea area that includes current construction of cascading rain gardens, bioswales, porous pavement sidewalks, and private side demonstration projects. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has completed the installation of eight demonstration rain gardens at private residences in a portion of the Marlborough area (73rd Street to 77th Terrace and Holmes Road to Paseo Boulevard.)
