The 2011/2012 Links are at the printer and expected in the near future! Watch your mail. Eight thousand directories will be printed and distributed. If you are receiving this newsletter from the US Postal Service, then you will be receiving a hard copy of the directory. Feel free to contact the Southtown Planning Center, 816-523-5553, if you would like additional copies for yourself or to distribute to others. Copies can also be picked up at 6814 Troost Ave.

School Supplies Needed

Several area organizations are collecting school supplies for the children. If you are interested in helping, please contact the organizations directly.

Gillis Center: All types of school supplies are needed including pencils, erasers, markers, paperclips, calculators, glue sticks, etc. Supplies may be dropped off at Gillis, 8150 Wornall; Bank Midwest, 7904 Ward Parkway; Sutherlands, 311 W. 72nd St., or bring them to the monthly luncheon on Sept. 21st. Research Doctor Receives Physician of the Year Award

The American Heart Association honored Willie Edward Lawrence, Jr., MD at its annual Awards Luncheon in Dallas naming him Physician of the Year. Dr. Lawrence, an interventional cardiologist for Midwest Heart Associates in Kansas City, was honored for his work as a patient advocate and for his efforts to fulfill the mission of the American Heart Association- "building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke."

Storefront Improvements Merit Southtown Sparkle

The Southtown Council selected the Rockhill Pet Clinic, 800 E. 63rd St. for the July Southtown Sparkle award. A Southtown neighborhood business for over 20 years, Rockhill Pet Clinic is a warm and loving place, known for their compassionate and knowledgeable team dedicated to exceptional service. The clinic offers comprehensive and advanced care customized to meet each pet's individual needs. According to owner/operator Dr. Patricia Stewart, "We have a 'Family Medicine' approach to pets." Rockhill Pet Clinic is also very involved in the well-being of the surrounding community. They have been a supporter of neighborhood events and improvements.
