Coming in 2011

As we begin the New Year, there are a number of exciting projects already underway or getting ready to start. The Troost Max (rapid transit) is a reality and work progresses on the Troost Bridge over Brush Creek. The Swope Health South Clinic, 8825 Troost, is open for business bringing much needed healthcare to the southern part of the city. Public funds and plans have been approved for new sidewalks, curbs, and driveways on 63rd St. from Harrison to Oak St. on the west side. Work has begun on the 63rd St. Design Plan which will provide a framework for future infrastructure and beautification improvements, and recommendations to spur development.

Sutherland's- Waldo's Business Highlight

Founded in 1917, Sutherlands, a family-owned business, moved one of their stores to Waldo in 1995 at 311 W. 72nd St. Sutherlands has more than 60 stores in the mid and southwest. In Kansas City, there are six stores and one more opening in 2011. The company is headquartered in Kansas City. Sutherlands is a full service home center including lawn and garden, lumber and hardware. According to store manager, Kevin Sharp, "Sutherlands is your corner hardware store on steroids!"

Lions will charter a new club in Waldo

A new Lions Club is being formed in Waldo during January 2011. Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with nearly 1.3 million men and women in approximately 45,000 clubs in 206 countries and geographical areas around the world. Since 1917, Lions clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired and made a strong commitment to community service and serving youth throughout the world.
