Mike's Tavern - Southtown Sparkle Recipient

For the past 35 years, Mike's Tavern has been a neighborhood icon. And thanks to new ownership, it is once again open for business at 5424 Troost Avenue! Stop in and you will be pleasantly surprised.

According to manager Tyler Brook, "It is the same old Mike's but has that new bar smell, great service, great food and great times!" There are new glorious bathrooms (with doors!) and a pleasing patio out back. Coming soon will be a real dartboard with a dartboard league and video games - Golden Tee and Silver Strike Bowling. The kitchen is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Hogan Preparatory Academy Receives a College Board

Hogan Preparatory Academy, 1221 E. Meyer Blvd. was honored with the 2010 College Board Inspiration Award and a check for $25,000. Every year, the Board presents three exceptional secondary schools with Inspiration Awards, which recognize schools that have made great strides in improving the academic environment for all students and raising aspirations and preparedness for higher education.

Troostwood Commons Gets a Facelift

Thanks to more than 25 volunteers from the neighborhood, Troostwood Commons at the corner of 49th and Troost Ave., now has two rain gardens and new planting areas around the benches. The front raised bed was weeded and cleaned up. A new rose bush and some lilies were added. Everyone worked hard and because of them...the park looks fantastic!

The Well Bar Grill & Rooftop is Taking Waldo to the Next Level - The Rooftop!

The Well, the sister restaurant of Lew's Grill & Bar, has transformed the old Roscoe T.V. & Video building into a multi-level restaurant with open-air windows and a second floor rooftop patio. The chef prepared menu includes fresh Cod fish flown in twice weekly, made to order pastas, smoked Chicken & Salmon and specialty French Dip sandwiches with hand cut french fries in peanut oil. The Well is open for lunch, dinner and late night cocktails 7 days a week.
