The Southtown Beautification Committee selected the new Oak Place on the campus of the University of Missouri- Kansas City for the September Sparkle Award. The original Twin Oaks Apartments were demolished and new student housing was constructed in its place off of 50th and Brookside Blvd.
The new 282,000 square feet apartments provide 513 beds in single, double, and four bedroom configurations. Each unit has a kitchen and living room and each bedroom has a private bath. The facility also provides a 144,000 square feet 400 vehicle secure parking structure and 5,000 square feet of retail space on the southeast corner. The total project cost was approximately $52.4 million. Site improvements also included upgrades to Oak Street with new curbs and sidewalks on the west side of Oak St.
The University of Missouri- Kansas City provides teaching, research, public service and economic development for the local community as well as state-wide and internationally. They will be celebrating 75 years of service this year and plan to plant 75,000 tulips this fall! Congratulations to UMKC and thanks for the reinvestment in Southtown.
