Members of the Southtown Council’s Beautification Committee are hoping to visit with individual Troost area property owners to explore establishing a Community Improvement District (CID)
along the Troost Corridor. While still in the exploratory stage, the committee is interested in forming the CID for the stretch of Troost Avenue running generally from Brush Creek to 75th Street.
Community Improvement Districts are special benefit districts that can be formed if the majority of property owners in the area agree. CIDs may use a range of funding sources, including property tax, sales tax, or other annual assessments. Preliminary suggestions for the use of any CID funds include streetscape improvements, graffiti abatement, litter control, a façade rebate program, and improvements to curbs, sidewalks and other public infrastructure. Committee members are working to meet individually with as many property owners as possible to discuss their interest and concerns. The committee hopes to determine whether there is sufficient interest in a Troost Avenue CID by the end of the year.
