In July, station construction for the highly anticipated Troost MAX service entered an important phase. Now anyone traveling along the Troost corridor will notice the MAX shelters and markers, standard features that clearly identify station locations for Kansas City's bus rapid transit lines.
The first of 47 shelters and markers was installed at the northbound Beacon Hill station at 27th & Troost. Since then about one-third of the locations have begun installation or been completed. According to KCATA Project Manager Keith Sanders, "The initial installation of shelters and markers typically present a learning curve that requires more time. After completing one or two, the installation work tends to pick up." All of the shelters and markers are scheduled to be in place by the end of September.
"This phase represents a major part of the construction work as Troost MAX moves closer to becoming reality," said Sanders. "We appreciate the cooperation and efforts of the contractors who are working to complete the entire project according to schedule."
