Renowned civic leader Carol Marinovich will be honored by the Southtown Foundation as its 2008 “American Citizen.” At a gala presentation to be held December 12 at the Muehlebach Hotel, Southtown will celebrate Marinovich’s remarkable tenure as mayor of Kansas City, Kansas, and her dynamic record as a community organizer and agent for economic development. And you’re invited to attend and join in the celebration!
The Southtown Beautification Committee has selected Hall’s Sales & Service, 1300 E. 63rd St., as the recipient of the November Sparkle Award. Hall’s Sales & Service is family-owned business in operation for 30 years, and a long-time Southtown member. With a combined more than 80 years experience in the auto industry, owners/managers Darren and Pancho Hall Jr. and their staff bring a high level of professional skill to their work – including auto technology teaching experience for the Big 3 automakers.
Troost Bridge at Brush Creek: The City was surprised recently when it reviewed bids for construction of the Troost Bridge at Brush Creek – all the bids were roughly twice the expected $19 million.
Mark your calendar for the two remaining programs in the Quality of Life Information Series, presented by Blue Hills Community Services Corporation. “Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)” will be the topic at the November 20 program, and “Holiday Eating Can Be Healthy” will be presented on December 18. Both presentations will be held at the Blue Hills Neighborhood Resource Center, 5909 Woodland. Refreshments and materials will be provided.
