Alphapointe Sparkles!

The Southtown Environment and Public Works Committee has selected Alphapointe Association for the Blind, 7501 Prospect, for the May Sparkle Award.

Alphapointe has been serving the community since 1911, working as the Kansas City Association for the Blind between 1916 and 1993. In 2002, Alphapointe became a Southtown resident when, following operational consolidation and a successful capital campaign, it moved to its present location on the site of the old Fairyland Park, bringing significant stability to an important part of our community.

The Life Skills Campus on Prospect houses a continuum of services, programs and products to meet the needs of all types of visually impaired clients and those that serve them. These include Connecting Point, the only retail store in the area that provides products specific to those with vision loss. It also manufactures a number of products for major clients including several departments of the federal government. Individuals can buy products at its website, alphapointonline.com.

Alphapointe earns the May Sparkle Award for recent improvements that include landscape additions of trees and planters, a “spring cleaning” of sidewalks, tables and park benches, and a freshly painted entrance.

The Southtown Council extends their congratulations to Alphapointe for all its contributions to the community, including its recent efforts to help make Southtown sparkle!
