The Sweet Tooth of Southtown

VeeAnd the Southtown Sparkle Award goes to….. Vee Toney of Vee’s Sweets and Treats at 8005 Paseo! “Vee’s is a jewel in what used to be ‘downtown’ Marlborough,” and her business is a big part of the renewal of this business district, praised Betty Ost-Everley, a long-time area resident. Allie Vee Fondren-Toney has been making the Southtown area sweeter for over 3 years. Vee takes pride in her location and has recently added a new building portrait as well as new concrete flooring and walls. It’s been said that it only takes one taste of her donuts, cookies or cheesecake cake” and you will know that she’s on to something! Vee’s business is becoming very well known, which brings more people to Marlborough who wouldn’t come for any other reason. Sweets aren’t the only delicious morsels offered at Vee’s. Be sure to check out their deli sandwiches, chips, pop and catering options. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 6:00am.-5pm and Saturday,

3rd Annual Justice Feast

Watershed Church & Marlborough Community Coalition are partnering on Sunday, September 16, from 4-7 p.m., for the 3rd annual Justice Feast, a simple meal to encourage conversation regarding pertinent justice issues in our city. This year, along with the help of Farm to Market Bread, KC Health Department, Harvesters, and Save-a-Lot, a free, nutritious meal will be provided as we discover the realities of food deserts in our city.

Educational booths will surround the meal, providing nutritional information, budget meal planning, food samples, and food label training. Through this event, we hope to continue the conversation as to how we can work against food deserts that plague our city, and ways to ork toward a healthier community.
